3. 2018 Block Island National Wildlife Refuge With Struck Through Error

If you are collecting Block Island National Wildlife Refuge quarters struck in 2018, look out for ones that might have the famous ‘’sunburst’” struck through error mostly visible on the obverse.

This error occurs when an object comes between the planchet and die and leaves its impression on the final coin. In this case, a star-shaped (or something close) object came between the planchet and die, leaving a large, visible star-shaped impression on the obverse.

Quarters are made from a copper core and a nickel outer layer. On some coins, the outer nickel layer may be partially or fully missing, resulting in a missing clad layer error.

This error occurs when there is a weak link between the copper core and nickel layer, usually due to the presence of impurities. This can cause the nickel layer to peel away, exposing the reddish-brown copper core underneath.

7. 2018 Minnesota Quarter With an Off-Center Error

As the name suggests, an off-center error coin is one in which the design is struck away from the center, resulting in some parts of the design or the inscriptions missing.

 The value of an off-center coin will depend on how far away from the center the design is struck. The more “off” the design, the more valuable the coin usually is.
